Week at a Glance November 1-5, 2021

Good afternoon,

We had a fun time celebrating to end our week at Cultus Lake Community School. A big thank you to our amazing PAC for providing our students with a wonderful Halloween celebration. Each student was given a pumpkin and our gym was decorated in a Halloween theme. Each class came down to enjoy the decorations with their classmates. We also had the RCMP at our school this week to help us practice our Lockdown procedures. Our students did a wonderful job following instructions from their teacher and remaining quiet and calm during the drill. Have a safe and wonderful weekend. A reminder to limit the amount of candy and treats sent to school next week.

Illness & Self-Assessment

A daily health check is a tool to reduce the likelihood of a person with COVID-19 coming to school when they are infectious.

  • Parents and caregivers should assess their children daily for illness before sending them to school. Utilize the provincial K-12 Health Check app for daily assessment of symptoms.
  • If a student, staff or other adult is sick, they must not enter the school.
  • Students, staff or other adults should stay at home when sick, as this is one of the most important ways to reduce the introduction to and the spread of COVID-19 in schools. The following resources provide guidance regarding specific symptoms of illness

Photo Retakes

Our Photo retake day is scheduled for the morning of November 5th. If you would like your child to have a photo retake, please remind them and connect with your child’s teacher if needed. (Please click here for information about "Preparations for photo day"). For best results on photo day, DO NOT WEAR GREEN-COLOURED CLOTHING or clothing that has green-coloured patterns in it. We love green, however, with green-screen technology, green clothing is not recommended. If your child is wearing green clothes or accessories, those areas will look invisible in the final image and will not be processed/printed.

Colibri Fundraiser

The PAC is currently running a fundraiser with Colibri. Colibri sells earth-friendly fabric snack bags, wet bags, reusable straws, and washcloths. Our fundraiser ends on Monday, November 1, so please make sure to place your order before then.

A few important details...

The Colibri fundraising website is different from the regular Colibri retail website. Please visit www.colibrifundraising. com to place your order.

You will see our school name when you check out. Please make sure you fill in all the required info to make sure your order comes to the school labeled and ready to enjoy!

Green Team

Our Green Team will be selling toonie treats on Wednesday at Lunch. Bring your toonies in to get a treat.

We will be hosting a Book Fair on November 30th and December 1st. Details will be sent out closer to the event date. Mrs. Knodel will be asking for some assistance during this event.

Nightly reading is the best indicator of school success.  ALL students should be reading at home, and this can take on many different forms (reading to self / reading to others / being read to / reading the pictures).   This year, we have started a new "Reading Bingo program."  Students should have brought home a red, September bingo card, and they will be receiving an orange, October card today.  Hopefully these cards encourage your child with some "creative" ways to read for 15-minutes each night.  Please ensure that these cards are returned to school at the end of each month and your child will be entered to win some prizes.  If you lose your card, you can always print one out from the library page of the school website.

Do you secretly like to organize your spice jars alphabetically?  Maybe you LOVE to wrap presents?  If so, Mrs. Knodel has library jobs for you that can be done at home or at school.  Please contact her at jodi_knodel@sd33.bc.ca if you would like to help out in our school library this year.  Training is provided.

Chilliwack Chiefs Adopt a School

We are very excited to be part of the Chilliwack Chiefs Adopt a School program this year. Our school will have access to 10 tickets per game to watch our local Chilliwack Chiefs hockey team at the Chilliwack Coliseum. We will raffle these tickets off each month. A big thank you to Lakeside Beach Club for sponsoring this program and giving our student this amazing opportunity.

Online Payment

You are now able to pay school fees (including School Supplies) online. The SD33 QUICKPAY link can be found by going to our school website or by following the link. If your child takes the bus, then you will already have an account. If not, then you will need to create an account. To do this you will need your child’s student number. You can contact Angela at the office or your child’s teacher to get this information.

Parent Advisory Council

Our PAC does an amazing job supporting our students and representing the parents voice at the school level. Because you have a child enrolled at Cultus Lake, you are already a member of our school’s PAC. I encourage you to attend one of our monthly PAC meetings. Our next meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, November 2nd at 6pm in our school’s library.

PAC Facebook Page

Our PAC also updates our School’s PAC Facebook Page. Please follow the page to find out some of the events, fundraisers and opportunities happening at our school and around our community.
