Well, another week comes to an end at Cultus Lake Community School and it seems like January is flying by. Our staff are doing a wonderful job providing students with rich learning opportunities. We are excited that we were able to welcome back more families who are returning from the Learn at Home program. Please continue to be diligent with keeping your child home when exhibiting any of the COVID-19 symptoms (BC Centre for Disease Control) and as always please feel to reach out to your child’s teacher or myself with any questions.
The Chilliwack School District is still following the checklist provided to us by BC Centre for Disease Control. This link is also found on our district website on the COVID page. This may change in the future, but for now, we are airing on the cautious side. You can look at this flow chart to see what happens if we have a person who has been in the school confirmed to have COVID-19.
CSOPA Winter Program
Lisa Braun, Director at Chilliwack School of Performing Art, will be running a theatre program, on Thursdays from 2 until 3, for eight weeks starting next week. This will be for students in Grades 3 to 5. We have limited space, so please have your child pick up a registration form at the office on Monday. This will be first come first serve.
Grade 5 Hoodies
An order form went home this week for Grade 5 Hoodies. We have sample sizes in the classrooms for students to try on. Please have the forms returned by February 9th. Please contact the office if you have any questions.
Many classes will be celebrating Valentine’s Day on Friday, February 16th. Please have students wear Red, Pink or White. To keep it COVID safe we cannot have any home baked or home prepared treats. Store bought prewrapped treats are fine if they want to bring something, but it's not expected. Please touch base with the classroom teacher if you have any questions about the plan in your child’s class.
On Wednesday, January 27th, we will be practicing our Lockdown Procedure as a school. Teachers will be explaining the purpose in their classes throughout the week. They will be explaining the difference between Lockdown, Hold and Secure and Shelter in Place.
Our February PAC meeting will be held on Tuesday, February 2nd at 6pm on Zoom. Please go to the following link to attend: https://sd33-ca.zoom.us/j/64486532596?pwd=cmZkSnFFQmR5aXdCVjN2UzZpaHlidz09
Please let us know if you have any questions and we hope to see you at the meeting. If you would prefer to call in rather than use the app, please contact me so I can provide you with the needed information.

Inclement Weather Guidelines
Inclement Weather Guidelines for 2020/2021 can be found here.
Inclement weather conditions such as freezing rain, significant snowfall or high wind can occur during the fall and winter months. In such conditions, decisions on the opening or closure of school district facilities are made by the Superintendent of Schools in consultation with management and supervisory staff who have checked first-hand on the driving conditions, walking/sidewalk conditions, and general condition of buildings and accessibility to sites. For more details on how this is done, click here. Please listen to the local radio stations or refer to the school district’s website (www.sd33.bc.ca) for school closures.
Please continue to read with your child every day and fill out the Super Reader form. If you have misplaced your form, please contact your child’s classroom teacher. Thank you to the Kiwanis Club for sponsoring Super Reader!
When your child is staying home from school, please call the school at 604-858-6266 to let us know. This ensures your child is safe and does not require a Safe Arrival phone call from Mrs. Betts.
Winter has arrived and so have cold, rainy days. Please ensure your child has proper outside clothing for the weather, as we will be going outside every day during recess and lunch breaks unless we have extreme weather.
Our StrongStart Site is Open for our Early Learners Ages 0-5!
Please go to https://sd33.bc.ca/strong-start for more detailed information on how to register and sign up for sessions. If you have any questions please contact Anila Gehman, our Strong Start Facilitator.
